A product page has to do more than show a photograph and a price. It must help someone judge suitability, understand the purchase and feel confident about the next step. Before increasing advertising spend, review whether your most important product pages answer the questions a customer would ask in a shop.
Make the product understandable
Write descriptions that explain the itemβs purpose and useful specifications. Show dimensions, materials, compatibility or care requirements when those details affect the decision. For variants, make the selected size, colour or configuration obvious. Photography should show enough detail to support the description without hiding important differences between options.
Explain the full purchase experience
Make shipping information and return conditions easy to find before checkout. Avoid leaving a customer to discover essential fees or restrictions at the final step. Where delivery timing varies, explain how an estimate is determined instead of promising a date you cannot reliably meet. Link to the relevant policy in plain language.
Remove avoidable checkout friction
Walk through a real order path on a phone. Check variant selection, cart updates, discount handling and validation messages. Ensure an unavailable product cannot appear purchasable by mistake. Use clear button labels and accessible form controls so customers understand what happens next.
Consider where reassurance is useful: accepted payment methods, a clear order summary and a way to contact the business. Avoid adding urgency banners that are not based on genuine stock or timing information.
Connect merchandising with measurement
Review product views, cart activity and completed purchases alongside stock levels, margins and returns. A product attracting clicks but few purchases may need clearer information, a more relevant audience or a different offer. Do not assume one metric can identify the cause on its own. Prioritise a small set of valuable products, document your changes and review the results over a suitable period.
Your next three steps
- Add missing decision-making details to three priority product pages.
- Make delivery and return information visible before checkout.
- Test a complete mobile purchase using your storeβs approved test process.
